Today we went up to see our barrel supplier. He is based in Uzerche, an historic town of towers. perched on the side of the river Vezere. The oak and chestnut forests made the area a traditional supplier of barrels and barges for the Dordogne and Bordeaux. Our supplier is has been making barrels for generations. Interestingly his machinery is mostly English made (presumably for beer barrel making). We ordered our new supply which will be used to mature our amazing 2015 Cabernets.
The end of March was a bit too dramatic. Humphrey was surveying the space left for bottled stock, took a horrible fall and broke three vetebrae. He is now well on the mend thanks to splendid Bordeaux hospital and his own powers of recovery. He has to wear a brace for a while which the little girl at the doctors thought was a ninja turtle suit. Hoopoes arrived back from Africa. Meanwhile, in the quieter moments on the vineyard Matt and I continue with wires and tying down vines.
